Travel Montage

  1. Ask one player what went wrong along the way
    1. "What did you find just off the beaten path?"
    2. "Who did you meet on the road?"
    3. "What was really dangerous about this leg of the journey?"
  2. Next player how did it get worse?
  3. Next player, how it was resolved?

As with all such techniques, if the question is how to translate it to published material, I would recommend embracing the spirit of assuming success, and give the GM a list of travel questions for the adventure, questions which take the form of "How did you..." sort of things ("You came upon a bridge with a black night guarding it, how did you get past?"). And, if you like, other elements in the material can call back to those moments.
