Grand Library of Caerwynne
Rising at the heart of the capital like a monument to knowledge itself, the Grand Library of Caerwynne is a towering citadel of learning, revered across the realm. Its domed roof gleams with arcane sigils etched in gold, visible even from the palace spires. The steps lead upwards to towering arched doors, crafted ancient whitewood bound in silver. The doors open easily despite their size, counterbalanced perfectly.
Inside, the air is cool and dry, touched with the scent of old parchment, wax, and the scent of ink. The central hall stretches skyward, an immense vault of stone and glass. Above, the dome is painted with constellations that shift ever so slightly with the passage of the real sky. Sunlight streams through enchanted skylights, bathing the entire atrium in a golden glow regardless of the hour.
Bookshelves climb six, seven stories tall ringing then atrium and leading off to stacks reaching further back. The atrium spaced with towers holding spiral staircases made of wood reinforced with brass. One tower at the front and back having floating magical platforms that stop at each floor instead.
Along the walls, arched alcoves lead to private study rooms. Many warded and glyphed to be soundproofed, sealed, temperature controlled and available only to those with proper credentials.
Long tables of polished dark wood inlaid with obsidian are arranged throughout the main floor, each etched glyphs to reduce noise and to stop spills. Scholars and students alike, sit hunched over tomes, copying and taking notes. Tables radiating out from the centre Grand Desk. This circular station is manned by Stackwardens and Archivists, whose knowledge and location of practically every book in the collection is legendary.
Sounds are muffled within the library, not silent, but even the shrillest scrape of the leather clad chairs rendered to white noise. And conversations never carry more than a few feet before becoming unintelligible. The only exception is the hourly ringing of the clock towers.
