Caerwynne Ring Noblese
These mansions are not simply places of residence; they are symbols of control over nature, magic, wealth and influence. The boundaries between reality and illusion blur, earth and sky bent and shaped by the will of their owners into opulent artistry. They are the heart of the city’s, the Empire's, elite, a place of power and beauty.
The mansions surrounding the castle form an awe-inspiring ring of towering spires, a spectacle of architecture that defies all sense of proportion and gravity. Rising impossibly high, the structures stretch far above the limits of natural stone, with no visible means of support, their upper floors lost in clouds or veiled by the shimmering light of powerful enchantments. Their spires twist and coil like giant tapered candles, each mansion standing as a monument to opulence, ambition, and a showplace for arcane engineering.
The buildings are far more than mere homes; they are living testaments to wealth and magic, with architecture so delicate and ethereal it seems to float in place. Each mansion is carved from gleaming stone, veins of precious metals running through their cores, and adorned with towering windows of enchanted glass that shimmer in a cascade of shifting colors. Then, In places, the structure itself just seems to dissolve into air, magically held spaces that pulse with a soft, almost imperceptible hum.
Within these floating and open spaces, the mansions reveal their true wonder. Invisible levels exist in the air, hollowed-out between the solid floors. Open-air gardens suspended by arcane forces with lush greenery spilling out like cascading fountains of life. Trees that seem to grown out of the floor/ceiling, with roots that seem to grow without enough soil, trailing delicately into aether. Water features flow gently through these suspended courtyards, streams of falling water moving in delicate arcs, weaving their way through statues and sculptures, not always all on the same floor or even the same mansion.
Interspersed between the gardens are opulent 'outdoor' museums. Sculptures like massive works of art frozen in time, floating tapestries and framed portraits. Some displays bordered by dense hedges and exotic flowers, whilst others are incorporated into the tall hedge mazes that snake through the gardens, the dead ends as likely to be a private sitting area as a floating priceless work of art.
Far below, at ground level, a few of the parks and squares have fountains fed from the crystal-clear waterfalls spilling over the edges of balconies from the mansions display floors. The parks an extension of the wealth of the families noblese.
Connecting the solid stone and open air sections of the mansions are grand staircases, spiraling up the sides like the coiling of a mythical serpent leading from one suspended level to another. Often made from materials that shimmer in the light, silver-tipped marble, transparent crystal or polished obsidian. The steps seem to float with glass balustrades that ripple and disappear into the light, twisting and turning impossible angles, interrupted only by small balconies and short landings for hovering carriages. The true way that guests arrive to the houses. The ground entrances whilst grandiose, are seldom used except by the multitudes of staff and deliveries.
